Ztorm selects Sony DADC’s Games Services for its Rental Model

Stockholm/London, June 7th 2011 – Ztorm AB, a leading service provider in digital distribution of entertainment products, today announced that it has chosen Sony DADC’s Games Services to realize its upcoming digital rental model of games through its B2B partner sites.

In addition to “Buy and Download”, the most common business model in the digital games industry, consumers are now provided with the option to digitally rent games for a dedicated period of time with the ability to make a full purchase of that same product at any point in time. Gamers now for the first time have a choice at the point of purchase; a request that has been raised by the community since years.

“Sony DADC’s Games Services have been established to support developers, content owners, as well as (r)etailers to grow their physical and digital business by offering services that significantly increase consumer transactions and satisfaction” says Stefan Podhajski, Director Product Management at Sony DADC. “Beside the ability to realize new and innovative business models requested by publishers, our gaming portfolio offers solutions from content enrichment, content monetization, content authentication through to market intelligence; with further services to be released and announced later this year. These solutions ultimately provide the end-consumer with more flexibility and more value for money, adding e.g. Downloadable Content (DLC) or Try & Buy options to the gaming experience.”

“We are very excited to present our game rental business model using Sony DADC’s Games Services. Our demo site is already up and running and we are ready to launch the service to our Ztorm connected retailers.” says Anders Emblad, CEO at Ztorm. “While we already are in discussions with several publishers for content, we will be spending our time at E3 showcasing our demo to secure additional titles for the service. “
